Sky coordinates

Moon on the Ecliptic

There is no field for a date of birth. The figure is the Moon at local noon.

Almanacs sometimes name a 30° slice of the tropical ecliptic with an old constellation word. This page reports that coordinate. It is not a horoscope, not a natal chart, and not a claim about mood or luck.

The tools on this site stop at geometry. A sector name here is a label for longitude, the same way a street number labels a place on a road.

How this is calculated

Zero longitude is the March equinox point. Each sector is 30° along the tropical ecliptic: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpius, Sagittarius, Capricornus, Aquarius, Pisces. The names are IAU-style where that keeps them from sounding like a newspaper column. The Moon's latitude is printed, so the figure is a point, not a personality.

Questions

Is this a horoscope?

No. The page does not ask when someone was born, does not use houses, and does not write a forecast. If a reader wants a horoscope, this is the wrong site.

Is this the same as a sun sign?

No. A newspaper “sign” is usually the Sun's sector on a birthday. This figure is the Moon's ecliptic longitude on the date you enter.

Why tropical and not the constellations as they sit today?

The tropical grid is fixed to the equinox. Precession has moved the named constellations. This page uses the tropical grid because that is the usual almanac coordinate, and it says so.
